Overview
The over-sixty population of East Tennessee is a true mission field, not only because their numbers are increasing but because their spiritual needs are so great.
Senior adults also represent a mostly-untapped people group who have a need to feel useful, to contribute to and participate in the total life of the Church.
This vital ministry must develop a uniform vision, a heart and burden for ministry to senior adults. This vision must expand to include not only those who are already a part of FCC, but those in our area as well who still need Christ and a church home.
Seniors are the fastest growing segment of the East Tennessee population not only because our area is becoming a magnet for retired people but also due to the influx of the baby-boomer generation.
Senior’s Ministry Mission
To organize under one umbrella all senior related ministries and activities at FCC with the following objectives:
* Challenge seniors to grow spiritually
Encourage daily Bible reading and prayer
Attendance in worship services
Identify with a Sunday School class
Get involved in small groups
* Encourage seniors to fellowship with other believers
To build meaningful relationships
Organize four trips during the year
Plan eight dinners at FCC each year
* Enlist all seniors in some area of service
Identify areas internally and externally where seniors can serve
Motivate seniors to serve in these areas
Honor seniors for heir service
* Organize a “safety net” for seniors who are homebound, hospitalized, ill, lonely or discouraged
Use existing networks i.e. Sunday school classes and create a process to insure no seniors are overlooked
Start a call ministry to connect all seniors who live alone
* Engage seniors in externally focused events
Provide activities for seniors to invite other seniors
Train seniors to share their faith
We are currently enlisting seniors to get involved in each of these areas. If you are interested in helping, please call Steve Trinkle at (423) 741-1663.
